Indonesia Masters: Chinese Women’s Badminton Singles Secures Spot in Finals

The 2024 Indonesia Badminton Masters came to an end on the evening of January 25th in Jakarta, with the Chinese national badminton team delivering a mixed performance. In the women’s singles, however, the Chinese team maintained a flawless record in foreign games, securing a spot in the finals in advance.

In the men’s singles competition, Lu Guangzu fell short against Indian player Kiran, stopping in the second round with a score of 11:21, 21:13, and 18:21. Meanwhile, Lei Lanxi defeated Chinese Taipei player Li Jiahao with a score of 21:13, 21:15, advancing to the quarterfinals as the only remaining player in the national badminton men’s singles. On the 26th, he is set to compete with Danish star Antonsen for a spot in the top four.

During the women’s singles, Wang Zhiyi faced off against Japanese player Aya Ohhori. After a challenging start, Wang Zhiyi managed to overtake her opponent and win the first game with a score of 21:18. She then went on to secure a straight 21:12 victory in the second game, propelling her into the women’s singles quarterfinals. He Bingjiao, Han Yue, and Gao Fangjie also secured wins in their respective matches, leading to a full sweep for the Chinese team in the women’s singles category.

With all five women’s singles players of the Chinese team drawn into the top half, an all-Chinese “derby match” is expected in the quarterfinals, with He Bingjiao facing Han Yue and Gao Fangjie facing Wang Zhiyi. This early showdown guarantees that the Chinese team has locked in a spot in the finals in advance.

In the women’s doubles, Li Wenmei/Liu Xuanxuan, Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu, and Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning all advanced to the next round. Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles competition, only Liu Yuchen/Ou Xuanyi of the national feather team managed to move forward. Lastly, Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong and Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin entered the mixed doubles quarter-finals.

Overall, the Chinese national badminton team is showcasing impressive performances in the Indonesia Masters, particularly in the women’s singles category, with their eyes set on clinching the championship title.
