Julio Urías receives sentence for accusation of domestic violence

Mexican baseball player Julio Urías sentenced to probation after domestic violence accusation

Mexican baseball player Julio Urías, who was playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the time, has been sentenced to three years of probation after being accused of domestic violence in the United States. The incident took place in September of last year at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

Urías did not contest the charges against him and was also sentenced to 30 days of community work. Additionally, he must attend a 52-week domestic violence counseling program and comply with a protective order that prohibits him from carrying weapons or using any type of violence against his victim.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided not to file serious crime charges against Urías, opting to leave the accusation as a misdemeanor. The Mexican now awaits the resolution from the Commissioner of Major League Baseball (MLB) to determine if he can continue his career within the league.

Urías played a significant role in the Dodgers’ rotation in 2022, finishing the season with a record of 17 wins and 7 losses and leading the National League in ERA with a 2.16 average. He was a candidate for the Cy Young Award for the best pitcher of the year.

The Dodgers separated from Urías after the domestic violence accusation, leaving him free at the end of the season. If he wants to continue playing in the United States, he will have to look for a new team.
