3.05pm Israel-Hamas, truce talks fail

Ceasefire talks between Hamas and mediators have broken down in Cairo to no avail, with just days left to stop the fighting in time for the start of Ramadan. This was reported by the international media, including the Guardian. Bassem Naim, a senior Hamas official, said the Palestinian group presented its proposal for a ceasefire agreement to mediators during two days of talks and was waiting for a response from the Israelis, who did not participate in this round of negotiations.

Yemeni Houthi rebels attacked the Liberian-flagged, Swiss-owned container ship MSC Sky II headed towards Djibouti. A fire broke out on board and was subsequently put out by the crew. However, the commander made it known that there were no injuries on board. This was announced by Centcom, explaining that two missiles were launched against the vessel, 91 nautical miles south-east of Aden. The first ended up in the water, while the second hit the container ship causing some damage. The vessel is now continuing its course.
