Manila Esposito won two more gold medals in his own country during the apparatus finals at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rimini on Saturday. The 17-year-old Italian, who already took first place in the all-round competition on Thursday, has now also secured the European title on beam and on floor.
The Frenchwoman Coline Devillard extended her title on the vault. The Italian Alice d’Amato, who finished second all-round, was the best on the uneven bars, just like in the previous edition.
The Belgian gymnasts had disappointing qualifications on Thursday and failed to qualify for the apparatus finals (for the top eight per event). Maellyse Brassart was able to win a ticket for the Olympic Games in Paris through the all-round competition. The European Championship went much less well for spearhead Nina Derwael (already certain of Paris 2024). The Limburg woman fell from both the uneven bars, on which she made her comeback, and the beam. This allowed her to make a cross about participating in apparatus finals. Derwael did not participate in the jump and the floor exercise. The Belgian team finished ninth. That was just not enough for a place in Sunday’s team final.
