Porto has halted the operation for the Mexican full-back, Jorge Sanchez, following the high difficulty of finding a replacement for him. Despite Sanchez’s desire to return to Liga MX and sign with Blue Cross, Porto has refused to release him, leading to the conclusion that he will remain with the club for the rest of the semester.
There were negotiations in which Blue Cross was close to signing the 26-year-old defender, but Porto ultimately rejected the club’s offer. There was a possibility of terminating the loan early, with Blue Cross paying a substantial amount to Ajax, who owns Sanchez’s international pass, as well as an additional sum to Porto, which holds a loan contract with the player until June 30.
The negotiations were advanced, with FIFA even giving approval for Sanchez to be hired by Blue Cross. However, Porto changed its mind, complicating the departure of the Mexican right back due to the coach’s reluctance to be left with only one starter in that position.
Blue Cross believed it had made significant progress in hiring Sanchez, only for Porto to once again halt the operation due to the difficulty of finding a replacement for the Mexican full-back. This has led to the conclusion that the team will not be hiring anyone else in this winter market. Instead, they will rely on their current squad, which includes several South American players and a young Mexican goalkeeper.
The setback in signing Sanchez is a blow to Blue Cross, as the operation amounted to a significant sum of over 6.5 million euros, including payments to various parties involved. With Porto’s decision, the club will have to look for alternative solutions within their current squad.
