The file surrounding a possible transfer of Joseph Paintsil to LA Galaxy is not getting any simpler. Thanks to a clause in his contract, the KRC Genk winger could be signed for a limited amount of 8 million euros if this happened before January 16. But because Paintsil had doubts and especially did not see all his personal (financial) conditions being met, LA Galaxy was unable to complete that deal in time.

But lawyers from the American club are investigating whether the January 15 end date is written in stone in the contract. They are looking for an opening, for example by activating the clause now and officializing the deal for 8 million in the short term. It would give them time to convince Paintsil, who is currently participating in the African Cup of Nations with Ghana, to move to Los Angeles. The MLS competition doesn’t start until February. (mg)
