In the final game of the 33rd matchday of the Primera División, the former Bundesliga striker turned the game around with goals in the 49th and 82nd minutes and in stoppage time.

Mistake from ter Stegen

Coach Xavi Hernández’s team, with national players Marc-André ter Stegen and Ilkay Gündogan in the starting line-up, moved back into second place in the table behind Real Madrid.

Shortly after the hosts took the lead through Fermin (22nd minute), a mistake by Ter Stegen helped Valencia to quickly equalize. Due to a failed pass attempt by the German keeper, Hugo Duro (27th) got the ball and was able to slide in effortlessly.

Barcelona dominates in the majority

Even before the break, the visitors took the lead thanks to a converted penalty kick from Pepelu (38th). However, after the red card for keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili (45th + 4), Valencia had to play the second half with one man less.

The host dominated the game with the majority. Lewandowski scored twice from Gündogan’s corners before scoring again from a free kick in the third minute of added time to complete the hat trick.

Real’s Güler scores in the absence of Kroos and Rüdiger

Real Madrid had already successfully completed its dress rehearsal before the semi-final first leg in the Champions League at FC Bayern on Friday. The Spanish football record champions also won 1-0 (1-0) with a better B team at Real Sociedad San Sebastián. The decisive goal was scored by top Turkish talent Arda Güler in the 29th minute.

Rüdiger and Kroos were spared

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti rested numerous regular players shortly before Tuesday’s premier class duel with Bayern, including German national players Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos. Defender Rüdiger came on as a substitute in the second half. Midfielder Kroos, like the ailing offensive star Jude Bellingham, did not play at all.

The championship title is practically impossible to take away from Real. The “Royals” have an eleven-point lead over FC Barcelona five match days before the end of the season. Last Sunday, Real defeated their arch-rivals 3-2 in the Clásico.
