Bayern Munich’s Champions League opponent Real Madrid has prepared for the semi-final second leg with the 36th championship in the club’s history. The record champions benefited from a slip-up by their pursuers FC Barcelona at FC Girona on Saturday evening (May 4, 2024).
The arch-rival lost 2:4 (2:1) – before the second duel with Bayern on Wednesday (08.05.24, 9:00 p.m.), Real can no longer be pushed out of first place. Barcelona took the lead twice thanks to goals from Andreas Christensen (3rd) and Robert Lewandowski (45th + 1/foul penalty). With goals from Artem Dowbyk (4th), Portu (65th/75th) and Miguel Gutierrez (67th), Girona not only secured victory but also second place.
Late on Saturday evening, Atletico Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 (1-0) win on Mallorca and thus consolidated fourth place. Rodrigo Riquelme scored the winning goal for the mainland Spaniards in the fifth minute.

The Royals themselves, without Antonio Rüdiger and Toni Kroos, won 3-0 (0-0) against relegation-threatened FC Cádiz in the afternoon and made the “couch championship” possible four match days before the end. “We still have to wait, but we had a spectacular league season,” Ancelotti said after Real’s victory about the upcoming championship.
