British McLaren driver Lando Norris won the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, the first of his career, finishing ahead of Red Bull Dutchman Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, and Ferrari’s Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc . Carlos Sainz, the other Ferrari driver, had finished fourth at the finish line but was then demoted one position in favor of Red Bull’s Mexican Sergio Perez, due to a 5 second penalty for hitting the McLaren of Australian Oscar Plates during an overtaking.
Verstappen has thus reached 138 points in the World Championship standings, which he leads after winning four Grands Prix (and after retiring once, in Australia) ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez (101) and the two Ferrari drivers, Leclerc ( 98) and Sainz (85).
