With a third round of 73 strokes, Thomas Detry has fallen from third to fourth place at the $9 million Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament, which takes place at the Torrey Pines golf courses in La Jolla, California.

Detry, who was in a tie for third place before the start of the third round, got off to a nice start with birdies on holes two and three. From the ninth hole onwards there was a mix of bogeys and birdies. German leader Stephan Jäger also had to write a number of bogeys on his scorecard, so Detry seemed to end day three as the leader. However, on the eighteenth and final hole, a par-5, Detry saw the ball roll into the pond from the green with a lot of backspin, which cost the 31-year-old Brussels resident a double bogey.

“This feels like a slap in the face,” Detry said after his round. Jäger, on the other hand, put away a birdie to maintain his leading position. In second place, one stroke more than the leader, are the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon and the Dane Nicolai Højgaard. With eighteen holes left to play, Detry has two strokes more than Jäger.

Our second compatriot Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who narrowly made the cut, had to settle for a third round of 76 strokes, four over par, after five bogeys and a birdie. The 23-year-old golfer dropped to 74th place.
