From the 2023 season, with only one prototype team and constructors will be able to compete in the “queen” class of the WEC and the Imsa championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona. Here are the cornerstones of the compromise sealed by the FIA: from tires, to brakes, to aerodynamics
Among the manufacturers, teams and race car drivers engaged in endurance racing, it was a dream come true. To compete in Europe and America, in the main endurance tests – including the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona – with the same prototype. A dream come true thanks to the agreement signed between Automobile Club de l’Ouest, which organizes the World Endurance WEC, and Imsa, which signs the events of the main US championship, under the aegis of the FIA.
LE MANS AND DAYTONA WITH A PROTOTYPE

With the ratification by the FIA World Motorsport Council, in fact, from 2023 the prototypes of the new “queen” Hypercar class introduced starting from 2021 (engaged in the Wec-World Endurance Championship) and those of the LmdH category expected from 2023 (designed for Imsa-International Motor Sports Association) will be able to compete in both championships. The result? The opportunity to participate on a global scale in the most historic and famous races in the endurance world, including Le Mans and Daytona.
CORSE ENDURANCE: THE AGREEMENT
—
The agreement between Aco and Imsa, with the supervision of the FIA, starting from 2023 will make it possible to align the prototypes of the main class (Hypercar and Lmdh-Le Mans Daytona hypercar) by determining a technical regulation that takes into consideration four essential aspects: the size of the tires, the acceleration profile (to equate the Hypercar prototypes, which have four-wheel drive, and LmdH, rear-wheel drive with electronics), the characteristics of the braking systems and aerodynamics (an aspect that will be examined and approved in the wind tunnel).
ENDURANCE PROTOTYPES: THE STATEMENTS
—
“Excellent news for teams and enthusiasts, news that anticipates a bright future for Endurance,” said Pierre Fillon, president of the Aco. “The result we have achieved together has the potential to revolutionize racing with prototypes around the world,” commented John Doonan, number one at Imsa. “The dream of teams and manufacturers to be able to compete in all the main classes of endurance racing with the same car is within reach, for the first time – in the words of Richard Mille, president of the FIA Endurance Commission – This represents a historic moment for all motorsport “.
