On Wednesday evening, Argentine world champion Lionel Messi announced that at the end of his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain, which expires on June 30, he will go to play in the United States for Inter Miami. He will therefore not go to Barcelona, as many had speculated, nor to the Saudi football championship, as many other great players of a certain age are choosing to do lately.
“We haven’t closed the deal and something is still missing, but we have decided to continue the path there,” Messi said in a joint interview with Spanish newspapers Sports world e Sport.
Messi, who will turn 36 on June 24, will therefore join Inter Miami, a team founded in 2018 which also has David Beckham among its owners. He will do so this season, as Major League Soccer started in February and ends in October. Currently Inter Miami is among the positions in the table that qualify for the playoffs that award the title.
