Today is D-day for Loena Hendrickx and Nina Pinzarrone at the European Figure Skating Championships in Lithuania. Hendrickx starts at 3:28 PM with a bonus of almost five points over Pinzarrone in her free freestyle, where approximately twice as many points are at stake as in Thursday’s short freestyle. Jade Hovine was the first of the three Belgians to compete in the free freestyle at the European Championships on Saturday. Unfortunately that didn’t go well. The 19-year-old from Hainaut suffered a blackout and missed several jumps. Afterwards she dried her tears in despair in the mixed zone. “I don’t know why I went wrong,” Hovine cursed. “The first jumps I did felt good and I performed 100% in every training session. I have no idea why I messed up. I was so focused. I was ready for the best freestyle of my life. I am so incredibly disappointed. I performed one jump like a warrior and the next didn’t work at all. I can hit myself.” Hovine ultimately received 89.06 points from the jury for her free freestyle. This leaves her well below her personal record of 112.15 points. She will finish the European Championships in 23rd place. “I have achieved my goal. This is my first European Championship and I was able to qualify for the free freestyle. I’m happy anyway.”
