When football becomes a family matter. In the Coppa Italia Promotion match, between Alagna and Bressana, the confrontation between father Claudio Lombardo, the Bressana coach and his son Matteo, 19 year old right winger of the Lomellini, took place. A family derby, won by Alagna di Lombardo junior, lived with the utmost serenity by both: “We had lunch together, then I asked him if he wanted to come to the pitch with me, but he had already organized with friends, so we met to the match. At home, we don’t talk much about football. These days, I helped him treat a blister on his foot, which was bothering him, ”says father Claudio. During the match, only on one occasion, Claudio spoke sympathetically to his son: «In the first half, he played on the wing in front of my bench. Jokingly, I told him that he could have pushed harder and reached the cross, but in fact it was hot and we are in the first games of the season, with a physical condition still to be refined ».
Matteo, now at Alagna, grew up in the OltrepoVoghera youth sector, and then made his debut with the Vogherese in Excellence, before joining the Lomellino team. During his footballing career, he was coached by his father Claudio, in the Youth Regionals of OltreVoghe: “I have no doubt that my father is a very good coach, but for a son to have a father as a coach in his own team, it is not a simple situation ”, explains Matteo. If Claudio has known high-level football, with his debut in Inter and almost 600 matches in the professionals, for Matteo the ball is mainly a fun: “Matteo doesn’t have the unbridled ambition that I had – declares Mr. Lombardo – the he likes football, but he doesn’t have the worry of making a career. He is happy to play in an amateur team, where he has found a serene and familiar environment. He also played in Voghera, in Excellence, but was struggling to reconcile school commitments with football, so he favored his studies. After the scientific high school, he will soon take the entrance test to the Faculty of Physiotherapy ».
The rematch in the league
From a footballing point of view, however, there is no lack of similarities between the two Lombardo: «As a physical conformation we are similar – emphasizes the father – we both have a nervous muscular structure, which allows us to be quick and reactive. As my favorite foot, I used the left-handed, while Matteo is right. As a technical quality, he is not doing badly ». The family appointment is now postponed to the championship matches: “I have already told him that we will be ready – warns Lombardo sr – but the 3-0 in the Cup was an excessive punishment for us, and Matteo agreed” . –
