The Miami Marlins have made a move to bolster their roster, reaching an agreement with first baseman Trey Mancini on a minor league deal with an invitation to big team camp, a source confirmed on Wednesday.
Mancini, a seasoned veteran with seven seasons under his belt, is coming off a 2023 season with the Cubs where he hit .234/.299/.336 with 12 doubles and four home runs in 79 games. After being released by Chicago last August, he briefly joined the Redsā Triple-A affiliate.
The 31-year-old Winter Haven, Florida native has experience playing first base and both corners of the outfield, providing valuable versatility for the Marlins.
With Josh Bell currently projected as the starting first baseman for Miami, Mancini could serve as a viable backup option and potentially step in for Bell if needed. This would give the Marlins an alternative to utilizing Venezuelan second baseman Luis ArrƔez as a second first baseman.
Manciniās addition provides depth and flexibility to the Marlinsā lineup for the upcoming season.
