Marlins and Luis Arráez fail to agree before arbitration limit

The Miami Marlins failed to come to a salary agreement with Luis Arráez, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Tanner Scott before the arbitration deadline on Thursday. As a result, the parties will now present their salary figures, and a hearing will be scheduled between January 29 and February 16. A panel of arbitrators will then select one of the two figures presented as the player’s salary for the upcoming season.

Despite this, the Marlins did reach agreements with eight other arbitration-eligible players, including Jesús Luzardo, whose deal is reported to be worth $5.5 million. Arráez, the two-time batting champion, is eligible for $11 million in his second year of arbitration eligibility. Chisholm, who had a standout 2023 season, is projected to earn $2.2 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Tanner Scott, who tied for the most fWAR among MLB relievers in 2023, is projected to earn $6 million in 2024, up from his 2023 salary of $2.825 million. Luzardo, who previously won an arbitration case against the Marlins to receive $2.45 million, had an impressive 2023 season and has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason.

The Marlins have a busy arbitration season ahead, as they look to solidify their roster and prepare for the upcoming baseball season.
