The Blue Cross Blue Machine’s coach, Martín Anselmi, has signed a contract extension with the team after an impressive performance in the regular phase of the championship. Anselmi led Cruz Azul to second place in the tournament, securing 33 points and a spot in the Liguilla.
Anselmi initially joined Cruz Azul for four tournaments, but his success in Clausura 2024 has earned him an extension until 2027. He will continue to work with his coaching staff, including assistants Facundo Oreja and Esteban Herrera, as well as physical trainer Diego Bottaioli.
During Clausura 2024, Cruz Azul achieved 17 victories, four losses, and three draws, scoring 23 goals and conceding 14. Forward Uriel Antuna played a key role, contributing eight goals and one assist.
In the upcoming Liguilla, Cruz Azul will face Pumas, a team they previously drew 0-0 with in the regular season. Despite the previous result, Cruz Azul’s confidence could be enough to propel them to the semifinals.
