Mattia Furlani won the silver medal in the long jump at the indoor world championships

On Saturday the Italian athlete Mattia Furlani won the silver medal in the long jump at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow, with a jump of 8.22 metres: equal to that of the Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou who won gold. In fact, in the long jump finals each athlete makes three jumps: the one who makes the longest one wins but in case of a tie, like this one, the second best jump is looked at. In this case, Tentoglou’s was 8.19 meters while Furlani’s was 8.10 metres. Third place went to Jamaican Carey McLeod.

Furlani is 19 years old and from Marino, in the province of Rome. In February he set the new Italian indoor long jump record and indoor Under 20 world record, with a jump of 8.34 metres. With second place on Saturday he became the youngest person ever to medal in the long jump at the indoor world championships.
