I arrive just in time for the kick-off in Monopoli, after having experienced the first leg final of the Pugliese Excellence cup between Manduria and Molfetta in Galatina. While I position myself with all my equipment near the guest sector, the large group from Potenza who arrived at the Venetians in good numbers.
Their trip, initially defined as risky by the usual censors ofObservatory, opens against all odds on Friday. Despite the limited time for the organisation, as mentioned, they present themselves positively as regards the pure quantitative data, moreover on a particularly difficult pitch, due to the less than idyllic relationships between the two sets of fans. As soon as they gather behind the beautiful pieces that distinguish them, they start without hesitation with chants aimed at their opponents, to warm up the environment and add a little spice to a match which, without ultras, would lose hands down compared to other hotter and more comfortable pastimes on a cold evening like this. Finally, wanting to make a qualitative consideration of their performance, overall they offer good support, with clear choruses british to which they add the lighting of a few torches and the usual flags always flying in the wind. They weren’t even supposed to be there and in the end they made an honest impression instead. So good.
On the other hand, in the first half I can only see the Curva Nord of Monopoli from afar: it still appears good numerically to me, particularly beautiful due to the way its spectators are compacted into a square in the central part. After a disappointing series of defeats, they invite – through a banner – their team not to give up and, in simple terms, to fight like them. Their vocal support was also decidedly positive and they embellished it by lighting many torches during the match. In the second half, positioning myself below them, I can observe them closely: undoubtedly, the new Curva Nord route confirms its fruits and continues its growth, regardless of the results. A cohesive sector that does what it has to do until the last second and that at least, on this occasion, goes home with a smile, rewarded by the team’s affirmation of measurement, victorious by a goal to nil: heavy points in the arduous battle for salvation. Coming out of this is possible, if only the green and white team will be able to borrow the same unity and stubbornness from its fans.
