Colombia calls ambassador to Argentina for consultations

The president of Argentina described Gustavo Petro as a “murderous communist.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, on behalf of the Government, expressed his protest against the recent statements that he considered “disrespectful of the President of the Argentine Republic”, Javier Milei, directed at President Gustavo Petro.

These statements were made during an interview with journalist Ángela Patricia Janiot on the program “What happened to what happened?”, broadcast on January 25.

The government of Colombia strongly rejects this statement, which attacks the honor of the president., who has been elected in a democratic and legitimate manner. President Milei’s words ignore and violate the deep ties of friendship, understanding and cooperation that have historically united Colombia and Argentina, and that have been strengthened over two centuries,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In response to this situation, the Government of Colombia has decided to immediately call Ambassador Camilo Romero for consultations., representative of Colombia in Argentina. This measure seeks to forcefully express concern and disagreement with President Milei’s statements, as well as safeguard the interests and prestige of Colombia on the international scene.

The interview has generated mixed reactions in public opinion, with some supporting Milei’s words and others criticizing him for his strong and direct language.

Camilo Romero stated: “Milei is a hypocrite. While today he asks our government for approval for his new ambassador in Colombia, he calls president @petrogustavo a murderer. He had already attacked Lula (Brazil) and even Pope Francis. We can think differently, but the region and the historical brotherhood of our peoples must be above the differences.”
