The Motagua board is expressing their frustration over the two-game suspension handed down to Agustín Auzmendi, their top scorer, after he was sent off for a double warning during a match against Vida. Auzmendi, who admitted his mistake and expressed regret over the incident, will now miss the upcoming semifinal games as a result of the suspension.
Sports director Emilio Izaguirre has criticized the decision, calling it exaggerated and stating that the board will be meeting with lawyers to discuss their next steps. The suspension stems from a previous incident in which Auzmendi and another player were involved in a fight and were warned that any further misconduct would result in separate suspensions, as seen in the case of Auzmendi now.
The former Scottish Celtic player and current Motagua leader emphasized that the board is displeased with the decision and will be seeking further clarification before making any decisions. The top scorer of the tournament with 10 goals, Auzmendi’s absence will be a significant loss for the team as they await their semifinal opponent.
