Rome, 20 August 2021 – Black day today in the mountains where they have been two deaths, a 26 year old hiker in the Bergamo and an Italian mountaineer in the Mont Blanc. Instead, it went well for an employee of a refuge in the Tuscan mountains above Stazzema (Lucca), in the area of Apuan, indirectly affected by a lightning while he was making a phone call on his cell phone: taken to the hospital, he had minor consequences.
Only this evening was the body of CDs recovered, a 26 year old hiker from Parma, who crashed yesterday afternoon while hiking on the Coca lace, in the province of Bergamo, in the territory of Valbondione, in the Scalve valley. The recovery took place over 24 hours after the alarm was raised around 7 pm last night for the young man’s failure to return to the base: the fault of the weather, which prevented the rescuers from reaching the lifeless body of the young man, who had however been identified late yesterday evening, around 11 pm, when a team of the Alpine rescue the sound of the boy’s cell phone was heard. The technicians descended along a very inaccessible channel, descending for several tens of meters, until they spotted the young man’s body, which was about eighty meters below. However, the weather conditions made it impossible to get close to where he was. The body was thus recovered only when the weather improved, just before 20 this evening.
This afternoon on the Mont Blanc massif he died an Italian mountaineer: this was announced by the French Alpine Rescue, without providing the victim’s personal details. The man crashed in the early afternoon in the sector of Giant’s tooth, a spur of rock at 4,013 meters, located on the Franco-Italian border, on the north side of Mont Blanc. The body of the climber was transported to Chamonix by the Platoon of the High Mountain Gendarmerie.
Bad weather in the last 24 hours caused an accident also in Tuscany, in the Apuan Alps area. In the upper Versilia a 50 year old employee of the shelter Montano Del Freo, at the mouth of Mosceta in the Ccmune di Stazzema (Lucca), while he was phoning outdoors he remained thunderstruck indirectly by a lightning that hit his cell phone. Fortunately, it has only had minor consequences.
