Chinese Men’s Football Team Members Optimistic about Qualification for Asian Cup

Xinhua News Agency, Doha, January 19 (Reporters Ji Jiadong, Xiao Shiyao) – The Chinese men’s football team is feeling optimistic about their chances of qualifying for the next stage of the Asian Cup after a day’s rest following the second round of Group A matches in Qatar.

Liu Yang and Dai Weijun, two key members of the team, expressed their confidence and hopes for the upcoming games during a brief interview before resuming training on January 19.

Liu Yang, who played a crucial role in both offense and defense in the first two group matches, spoke about his increased preparedness and confidence compared to his previous Asian Cup appearance. “This is my second Asian Cup, and my role is also changing. In the first one, I was a young player on the team. Now I have more things to consider and I am more prepared than the last time,” he said.

With two draws so far, the Chinese team currently has 2 points in Group A, placing them in second position. Their next match against the host team, Qatar, on January 22, will be crucial in determining their qualification for the next round.

Against the backdrop of their upcoming match, Liu Yang highlighted the need to focus on solid defense against the strong attacking capabilities of the Qatar team. “Qatar also plays with a five-back style. The frontcourt players have very strong scoring capabilities. We must defend well first and then find ways to score goals,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Dai Weijun, who suffered bruises from a foul during the match against the Lebanese team, echoed Liu Yang’s sentiments about the team’s increased confidence and better preparations. “After the first game, the coach saw some problems in our team and made some adjustments during training. Everyone’s confidence has definitely improved. We are preparing for the next game with a very confident attitude. We hope to be able to qualify from the group,” he stated.

The team’s optimism is a positive sign as they gear up to face the formidable challenge posed by the Qatar team in their upcoming match. With the support of their dedicated players and coaching staff, the Chinese men’s football team is determined to give their best effort to secure a spot in the next stage of the tournament.
