National Swimming Championships: Tang Qianting Breaks Asian Record in Women’s 100m Breaststroke

The 2024 National Swimming Championships in Shenzhen entered its second day of competitions on April 20th with an electric atmosphere. The highlight of the day was when Tang Qianting surpassed the Asian record in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke, solidifying her position as a top contender in the sport.

Tang Qianting dominated the women’s 100-meter breaststroke semifinals, leading from start to finish and touching the wall with a time of 1 minute, 4 seconds, and 68 milliseconds. This time was not only a personal best for Tang but also broke the Asian record for the event. Her impressive swim improved on her previous time of 1 minute and 5 seconds from the World Championships in Qatar earlier this year.

With this new record-breaking time, Tang Qianting became the first Asian athlete to swim the women’s 100-meter breaststroke event in under 1 minute and 5 seconds, showcasing her incredible talent and determination in the pool.

In other events, Olympic champion Zhang Yufei continued her winning streak by clinching the gold in the women’s 100-meter butterfly final with a time of 56.36 seconds. The men’s events saw triple world champion Qin Haiyang dominate the men’s 100-meter breaststroke final, securing the gold in 58.24 seconds.
