Among the many happy notes that the absolute Italian Athletics Championship held in Nuoro gave away, there are undoubtedly the performances centered by Nicole Orlando, who participated together with 120 other athletes with their companies affiliated to the Italian Paralympic Sports Federation of Intellectuals relational.

Participation was limited to only two specialties per athlete, given the high number of registered competitors and the difficulty of preparation in this period. Nicole showed up in the first day of competition in the triathlon (one hundred meters, shot put and long jump) in a totally autonomous form, without any technician in tow, managing both the warm-up part and the race itself. In addition to the victory, which reconfirms his value expressed over the years, Orlando also obtained the personal best in the 100 meters, where he stopped the hands on a time of 16”83

The exploit then arrived in the women’s relay of the Italian national team with Down syndrome engaged in 4 × 100. Orlando, Chiara Zeni, Elisa Zandri and Sara Spano stopped the clock at 1’09”21, writing the new world record. A fact that acquires even more importance in view of Euro Trigames, the continental event dedicated to Down syndrome which will take place in Ferrara in less than a month (4-11 October). The previous record, also held by the Italians, was 1’11 ” 82 obtained in Tampere, Finland, in 2018, with Giulia Pertile together with Orlando, Spano and Zeni. «From the reopening of the stadium after the lockdown Nicole started training with the UGB team – says her mother Roberta -. She has more motivations, she is stimulated, she again wants to compete and get involved. The results were immediately seen and she was very happy ». Riccardo Bora also took to the track for the La Marmora gymnastics club, very good in the two races in which he presented himself to win gold at the javelin and silver in the discus.
