Olympiacos Piraeus follows AC Fiorentina into the final of the Conference League

Olympiacos Piraeus is in the final of the Conference League and almost has a home game against AC Fiorentina. The Greeks won the first leg of the semi-final against Aston Villa 4-2 and won the second leg on Thursday evening 2-0. The final on May 29th is in Athens at the stadium of city rivals AEK.

In their own Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, Ayoub El Kaabi gave Olympiakos the lead at the first good opportunity (10th minute) and added the second goal after 78 minutes. Aston Villa could hardly do anything with the large portion of the game in the encounter led by Bundesliga referee Felix Zwayer.

Florence prevailed in the semi-finals thanks to a 3-2 and 1-1 draw against FC Brugge. Six days after the 3-2 win in the first leg, the ninth-placed team in the Italian championship managed a 1-1 (0-1) draw in the semi-final second leg at FC Bruges on Wednesday.

Striker Lucas Beltran secured the Italians’ place in the final with his goal from a penalty kick in the 85th minute. Midfielder Hans Vanaken (20th) had previously scored a goal to tie the overall result for the fourth-placed team in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. In the final phase, Brugge’s Denis Odoi saw yellow-red (90th + 4).

Overall, Florence was the better team in the second leg and was unlucky when it came to scoring until the equalizer: the Italians hit the crossbar or the post three times.
