In the final, the blue, in his third medal in the history of the Olympics, yields to the Turkish Gazoz. Then a new bronze in weightlifting with Nino Pizzolato

TOKYO. The medal factory is always open but the golds arrive with a dropper for Italy. Another opportunity vanished in the individual final of men’s archery where the blue Mauro Nespoli had to settle for silver, beaten in the final by the Turkish Gazoz (4-6).

A real shame for the Italy of archery that leaves the Olympics with this second place and with the bronze of Lucilla Boari. Nespoli had arrived in the final in a brilliant way, getting rid of the Brazilian Almeida first in the round of 16 (6-0), then the German Unruh in the quarterfinals (6-2), finally in the semifinals of Tang Chih (6-2).

In the final Nespoli paid for a bit of tension after starting the match well in which he led to 2-0 and then 3-1. The two archers were tied in the last shooting series and Gazoz first hit a 9 and then a 10 while the blue responded with an 8 and a 10. The perfect center of the Asian in the next arrow gave the gold to the opponent of the Italian archer. For Nespoli it is the first individual medal after winning silver in Beijing 2008 and gold in London 2012 as a team.

A little later came yet another bronze, from weightlifting. The winner, behind a Chinese and a Dominican, was Nino Pizzolato in the 81 kilogram category. In the medal table, Italy now boasts 2 golds, 8 silvers and 14 bronzes.
