Great performance paired with Ruta: second best time in heats behind the super Irish world champions
VARESE. A good start at the Varese European Rowing Championships for the European champion Stefano Oppo who, in the first heat disputed this morning at 13:10, paired with Pietro Ruta, won the pass for the semifinal in the Double Lightweight specialty male which will be played tomorrow, Saturday 10 April.
The race. A battery that was dominated by the Azzurro crew of Oppo and Ruta from the start to the final meters; despite the weather conditions of Lake Schiranna were not perfect, that of the current European champions was a perfectly controlled and managed race, which made it possible to impose itself strongly on the Swiss crew, second, and on the English one, who crossed the finish line third. This is the order of arrival: 1. Italy (Stefano Oppo-Carabinieri, Pietro Willy Ruta-Fiamme Oro) 6.56.75, 2. Switzerland 6.58.23, 3. Great Britain 6.59.10.
The other batteries. In the second bacteriasis, the German crew of Osborne and Rommelmann are imposed – as expected – on the Czech Republic and France. The double Irish world champion, on the other hand, took first place in the third battery with the best time (6.54.75), ahead of Ukraine and Spain. The second best time for the Azzurri. Only the first 3 crews of each heat went directly to tomorrow’s semifinals. The other crews in the repechage in the afternoon.
