Ozzie Guillén complains of mistreatment on Marlins homecoming

The manager of Tiburones de La Guaira, Ozzie Guillén, reported on his social network X that he had been mistreated by stadium security upon his return to the Miami Marlins headquarters. The incident occurred as Guillén was participating in the Caribbean Baseball Series, which started on Thursday.

Guillén, who is 60 years old and also won the Venezuelan professional baseball league championship with Tiburones de La Guaira, expressed his frustration on social media. He claimed that on his return to loanDepot Park, he and his family had been subjected to mistreatment by Marlins security.

The former three-time All-Star shortstop and winner of the American League Rookie of the Year award also managed the Chicago White Sox and led the team to a World Series victory in 2005. However, his tenure with the Marlins was marked by controversy and his admiration for Fidel Castro caused tensions with the Cuban community in Miami.

The incident that occurred upon the Guillén family’s arrival at loanDepot Park led to a confrontation with security personnel, with Ozzie Guillén Jr. explaining that a member of the security team had allegedly touched his mother during a discussion upon their arrival.

The Marlins and the Caribbean Baseball Confederation declined to issue official statements on the incident. However, a source from the organizing committee mentioned that the incident began when the Guillén family attempted to enter through a door not designated for their entry, leading to the confrontation with security.

The Venezuelan team’s assistant general manager, Ozzie Guillén Jr., apologized to the organizing committee for the incident, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused. Despite the controversy, the Caribbean Baseball Series continued as scheduled.
