More than 1,200 volunteers are in place for the Shanghai Station of the Olympic Qualification Series
Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai, May 9 (Reporter Xu Dongyuan) From May 16 to 19, the Shanghai Station of the 2024 Olympic Qualification Series will be held in Huangpu Binjiang. There is still one week left before the opening of the competition. On the 9th, the volunteer induction ceremony was held.
Since the announcement of volunteer recruitment on International Volunteer Day on December 5 last year, there has been a strong response from college students and citizens who are enthusiastic about volunteering. The organizing committee has received a total of 7,543 applications. Finally, after multiple rounds of interviews, it was determined to recruit more than 800 student volunteers from 14 universities including Fudan University, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as more than 400 social volunteers.
According to the overall work requirements of the organizing committee, volunteers will mainly provide services in positions such as competition, venue security, athlete reception, media services, audience services and urban civilization. During the event, volunteers will participate in and undertake related tasks such as event operation guarantee, including personnel guidance, information consultation, language services, emergency assistance, etc., striving to provide first-class services to all players and spectators, show the style of Chinese youth to the world, and contribute to Shanghai Contribute youth to build an international sports event capital and build a world-famous sports city.
At the ceremony that day, the volunteer representatives integrated the four competition events of freestyle BMX, skateboarding, break dancing and rock climbing into music and situational rap, showing the warm, open and energetic image of the volunteers to those present, and won rounds of applause. The organizing committee also carried out a number of trainings for volunteers, including sports-themed story sharing, general knowledge, on-the-job training, etc., to fully prepare the volunteers for their formal employment.
The Olympic Qualifying Series is the ultimate qualifying event for four events including freestyle BMX, including two stops in Shanghai and Budapest. The Shanghai Station will be attended by 464 top athletes from all over the world, who will demonstrate their superb skills in the vibrant urban sports park and compete for Olympic qualifications.
