The national Serie C women’s football championship will start on 10 October, in which the newly promoted Pavia Academy will participate.
A demanding season for the club led by president Giorgio Benaglia, returning from a triumphal year in the Ligurian tournament of Excellence (where he participated by way of derogation due to the failure to restart the Lombard one) where he obtained the victory in the play offs over Sampdoria (later climb directly to A by purchasing the right of Florentia San Giminiano). 48 teams admitted to the women’s Serie C tournament, divided into 3 groups of 16. The Pavesi are included in group A with: Arezzo, Azalee Solbiatese, Città di Pontedera, Caprera, Fiamma Monza, Genoa, Independiente Ivrea, Lucchese, Orobica Calcio Bergamo, Perugia, Pinerolo, Pistoiese, Spezia, Real Meda, Ternana.
A challenging tournament both technically and logistically with long trips to Tuscany, Umbria and even one in Sardinia in Caprera. «We present ourselves after a winning ride and a dominated championship that led us to hit the goal set by the company, that of participating in the national Serie C tournament – explains the Pavia Academy coach Corrado Martinotti -. To do this, we confirmed the squad as a whole: the historic captain Rosanna Salamone and Karin Czeka left us, because they ended their competitive activity. Four new arrivals: the defender Ilaria D’Ugo in the last championship at the Accademia Vittuone, but with previous experiences at the Milan Ladies and the Riozzese, the midfielder Marta Longoni, former Real Meda, but who played in the youth teams of Inter and in B with Napoli, while two elements arrive on loan from Sampdoria but the attacker Aurora Poletto and the defender Nicole Cozzani played at Campomorone in C ».
In a “new” championship for the Italians, the goal is still to do well. «Considering the quality of the C series and of our squad we can aim to reach the top five – mister Martinotti unbalances -. Even the insiders who know the category place us in a high ranking role as we aspire to fill. A challenging tournament not only for the opponents but also for the long trips planned with a match in Sardinia and others in Central Italy. The formula foresees that there are no playoffs, but the three first classified of the three national groups will go straight to Serie B ». If October 10 will be the debut in the league (calendar that should be made official this week), the first pre-season test will already take place next Sunday when the Pavia Academy will play the first day of the Italian Cup away to Real Meda.
In group 14, in which the Pavesi have been included, the following engagements will be at home at Fortunati with Fiamma Monza (19 September) and Orobica Bergamo (26 September). The staff of Mr. Martinotti are still part of Andrea Zappa as deputy and athletic trainer, the goalkeeper trainer Maurizio Falbo and the director Alessandro Albani.Enrico Venni
