Players recovered from Covid, return in a shorter time

by admin

With the new protocol, in non-serious cases, the process is shortened from 30 to 7 days, also lowering the costs for medical checks

PAVIA

A simplified return to the pitch and new articulated rules for sport and amateur youth football; obligation of a reinforced Green pass for athletes and all those who will enter a sports facility (insiders, coaches, managers or the public), rules for carrying out the activity and how to behave based on the age of young players .

The Lnd approved the new anti Covid-19 protocol, “Return to play”, following the requests of the Lombardy Regional Committee, at the urging of the various football clubs. The Federation of Italian Sports Doctors has drawn it up trying to simplify the rules for the return to the field of positive infections and those cured of Covid. The wait for the visit and the return to the activity has been reduced from 30 to 7 days with simpler examinations and visits with lower costs. The new protocol divides the milder “cases” from the more severe ones. For the former, the times and number of exams to be taken are: competitive medical examination to be carried out at a Sports Medicine center, diagnostic tests such as ECG and stress test with continuous electrocardiographic monitoring (for athletes under 40); the exams will be performed no earlier than 7 days after healing. The latter must be ascertained according to current legislation for athletes under 40 who have completed the primary vaccination cycle in the previous 120 days, or have recovered from virus infection in the previous 120 days. Having acquired the eligibility or certification of “Return to activity”, the athlete will be able to gradually resume training and / or activity, under the careful control of the medical doctor and / or the health manager of the sports club. In the case of athletes who have presented severe or moderate disease, or who in any case have resorted to hospitalization and / or antibiotic, cortisone and heparin therapies due to Covid infection, the previous protocol remains in force, with longer return times. (30 days) after taking more detailed exams.

The approval of the clubs

Pavia, Vogherese, Accademia Pavese and Varzi are unfortunately struggling with cases of positivity. How do they evaluate the new protocol? The diesse of Varzi, Nicola Raso: «The new protocol is welcome. That’s what he was wondering. First to reduce time and then costs. How would we have thought of resuming playing with part of the unsuitable squad? It would have happened to all or almost all, but it would have been a penalty that would have risked distorting the championships ». Davide Pedone, director of the Accademia Pavese: «Luckily we have not had any particular inconvenience up to now with the Covid cases. Having said that, we believe the new protocol is appropriate and adequate for everyone’s needs. It would have been unthinkable to have to manage the returns to the activity of members with such a long time. We could not even have thought of expanding the squad even further to cover any needs. It seems to me that waiting 7 days after healing allows a player to quickly return to the ranks. With this we will evaluate from time to time, but on paper they seem reasonable times to me ». –
