Pordenone rewards loyalty, Bassoli will be the new captain

PORDENONE. Retiring last April, Mirko Stefani left the Pordenone captain’s armband he had worn since August 2015.

To collect it, barring surprises, will be those who wore it in the last part of last season: Alessandro Bassoli is ready to become the reference of the lizards’ dressing room.

Central defender, 32, is the one chosen to fill this delicate role. On the other hand, he is an expert figure, as well as being the footballer who currently wears the black-green jersey for the longest time: he arrived at De Marchi in the summer of 2017 from South Tyrol, making his debut on the following 24 September. He hasn’t left since. And he played fundamental games in the history of the Friulian club.

SILENT

For the first time in many seasons, therefore, we are witnessing the change of captain at Pordenone. The last time it happened seven years ago, when after relegation to Serie D, with subsequent repechage in Lega Pro, it was decided to revolutionize the team.

Denis Maccan, striker, who then wore the armband, was among the unconfirmed: the then market consultant Giorgio Zamuner, with Bruno Tedino as coach, among the many new players decided to appoint Stefani as captain. The defender from Trentino accepted and later totally embraced the cause of the lizards, so much so that he ended his career with Pordenone.

In the last three seasons he has played little, but he has always remained the reference for players and coaches who have alternated with De Marchi. Now that he has retired, the task falls to Bassoli, considered the natural heir.

Like the “old” number 4 he is a silent leader, who sets an example with work. Serious and calm person, he knows when to talk and how to be heard. Over the years he has been appreciated not only by the club but also by the fans. He is definitely ready to wear the captain’s armband.

HIS OWN STORY

Since 2017, the Bolognese defender has totaled 115 appearances in neroverde, seasoned with an assist and two goals, one of which is historic: the one that earned him the victory in Cagliari in the Tim Cup, which opened the doors to the round of 16 against Inter at Pordenone.

In Serie C he was the protagonist in particular in the last part of the season ended with the victory of the championship: he played from 1 ‘, among others, the match with Triestina at Rocco (worth +10 on the giuliani) and the one with the Giana Erminio who gave the mathematical promotion.

In Serie B the first change of the Camporese-Barison duo was always on paper. And just paired with the latter, with whom he has a great friendship, he played his best races. Bassoli also owes a lot to Mr. Tesser, who has always supported and appreciated him.

And it was with the Treviso coach that he wore the captain’s armband for the first time, precisely in the final part of the match against Venice, in January 2021. From the start of the match he also brought it to Domizzi’s bench debut, which coincided with the match against Entella on 5 April 2021. So he wore it continuously from the match on 12 February with Parma.

Now it will be his turn again, already from the first friendly match on July 24th, against Maniago Vajont. Almost there now.
