The precedents between the Italian tennis player and the Russian on the eve of the Australian Open final
(LaPresse) Jannik Sinner became the first Italian tennis player in history to reach the final at the Australian Open, after beating 10-time winner Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. In the final act of the Melbourne tournament, the South Tyrolean will face the Russian Daniil Medvedev who overcame Zverev in the semi-final at the end of a super comeback. After six consecutive defeats in as many matches, the blue has won the last three matches played against the Moscow bear. Medvedev is solid and concrete and closes after 90 minutes. 2023 opens with two more Medvedev successes. The Muscovite wins first the final in Rotterdam and then that of the Master 1000 in Miami. The Russian taboo is broken on 4 October 2023. Jannik defeats Medvedev in the final in Beijing with a double 7-6 and reaches 4th place in the ATP ranking. The victory of the record, that of the ten ATP titles in his career as Adriano Panatta, reaches the final in Vienna, at the end of a battle that lasted over 3 hours.
