Arsenal FC and Manchester City are keeping pace in the championship race. The Londoners led the way, the defending champions then followed suit. For Liverpool, the dream may have finally burst.

The football championship in the English Premier League remains exciting. Arsenal FC and Manchester City won their games on Sunday and are moving in lockstep in the table. Arsenal lead the standings by one point, but have also played one more game than Manchester City.

The English champions achieved their fifth three-point win in a row on Sunday with a 2-0 (1-0) win at Nottingham Forest. Manchester City struggled for a long time and ultimately celebrated a victory. The goals were scored by former Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol (32nd) and striker Erling Haaland (71st).

Arsenal won the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur 3:2 (3:0). Thanks to an own goal from Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (15th minute) as well as goals from Bukayo Saka (27th) and Kai Havertz (38th) with his 13th goal of the season, Arsenal led early on, but had to tremble in the end. Cristian Romero (64th) and Heung-Min Son (87th) scored from the penalty spot for their local rivals.

Supposed preliminary decision: Kai Havertz made it 3-0. But it was still exciting

Liverpool is out of the race

Liverpool FC suffered the next and possibly decisive setback in the race for the English football championship the day before. A few days after the 2-0 defeat in the city derby at Everton FC, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team failed to score more than 2-2 (0-1) at West Ham United on Saturday despite being clearly superior. Liverpool are five points behind Arsenal.

Klopp also had a verbal argument with his striker Mohamed Salah during the disappointing draw. TV images showed how the coach initially approached the Egyptian when he was substituted in the 79th minute and spoke to him.

Salah then reacted angrily, he spread his arms several times and also raised his index finger towards Klopp, gesturing. His teammates Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez tried to calm him down. But Salah’s anger – possibly because he wasn’t included in the starting eleven and because he was substituted late – was still great even after the final whistle.
