Preparation for the Bundesliga: With Müller returning: SC Freiburg starts work

Status: 07/10/2023 12:28 p.m

Still without storm reinforcement Junior Adamu, but with returnee Florian Müller, Bundesliga club SC Freiburg started preparing for the new season on Monday.

SC Freiburg returned to the training ground on Monday morning in summer temperatures. However, not with the full squad yet. Since the internationals around Matthias Ginter or the Austrians Adamu (who came from RB Salzburg) and Michael Gregoritsch are not expected back in Freiburg until next week, coach Christian Streich welcomed a severely thinned-out team to training in the morning.

Müller at the start, Atubolu not yet

The U21 internationals around Noah Atubolu, who will start the season as SC Freiburg’s new number one, are not due to join the team until the training camp in Schruns (Austria). Returnee Florian Müller (from VfB Stuttgart), who was between the posts at Sport-Club in the 2020/2021 season and played 31 Bundesliga games for SC, was there when the Breisgauer started training. The goalkeeper describes his goals in an interview with SWR Sport: “We have a lot of games this year. I get fit, I get in shape. And then I’ll be ready when I’m needed.”

Also on the pitch were Jordy Makengo and Max Rosenfelder. The 20-year-old Rosenfelder moves from SC Freiburg II to the pros in the new season. 21-year-old Makengo gets a chance to feature in preparation for a squad spot.

First test match against Zurich

The sports club is represented in three competitions for the second time in a row and will also start in the Europa League in the new season. Freiburg will play their first friendly next Saturday (July 15, 4:00 p.m.) against Grasshopper Club Zurich. The following week, the team travels to the training camp in Schruns, where the sports club will be preparing for the new season from July 20th to 28th.
