Qualification for the Olympics: Four German athletics relay teams in Paris

As of: May 6, 2024 12:37 p.m

The German Athletics Association (DLV) will definitely be represented with four relay teams at the Olympic Games in Paris. The men’s 4×100 meter relay and the mixed 4×400 meter relay took advantage of their second chance to get their Olympic ticket at the so-called World Relays in Nassau (Bahamas) on Sunday (May 5, 2024/local time).

After the men’s shorter distance relay failed to finish on the first day of the World Relays due to an error in transition, Kevin Kranz, Lucas Ansah-Peprah, Robin Ganter and Yannick Wolf won their race in the repechage round.

The mixed quartet with Manuel Sanders, Alica Schmidt, Emil Agyekum and Johanna Martin also secured first place and thus the Olympic ticket with a changed line-up and a significant increase compared to the race the day before.

On Saturday, the teams in the women’s 4×100 meters and men’s 4×400 meters had already qualified for the Olympics. The women’s 4×100 meter relay team led by double European champion Gina Brückenkemper narrowly missed the podium and took fourth place behind the victorious US relay as well as France and Great Britain. The men’s 4×400 meter relay team finished seventh in the final.

Women’s 4×400 meter relay team has to fight for Olympic qualification

The women’s quartet in the 4×400 meters, however, still has to worry. The relay only finished fourth in its repechage race. Second place would have been necessary for the Summer Games. The only option left for the team is to get one of the two starting places that have not yet been awarded via a leaderboard.
