The 23-year-old Brazilian has become a symbol of the fight against discrimination in Spanish football after suffering racist abuse on many occasions. Last May, Vinicius himself had filmed a fan at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium after suffering racist abuse, but then Carlo Ancelotti said the player had “unfortunately become accustomed” to racism in Spain. Spain will face Brazil at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid in a friendly on March 26, organized to “strengthen the commitment against violence and racism in football”.
