In a thrilling match at the BBVA Stadium, Rayados emerged victorious against Mazatlán FC with a scoreline of 2-1. This win not only helped Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz’s team regain the lead in Clausura 2024 but also maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament after 11 rounds played.

Rayados got off to a flying start with Gerardo Arteaga scoring in the 18th minute after a sensational long pass from Sebastián Vegas found its way to him. The home team extended their lead before halftime when Germán Berterame capitalized on a rebound to score his third goal of the tournament.

However, Mazatlán FC fought back as Luis Amarilla found the back of the net in the 59th minute after capitalizing on an error by Rayados. The Cañoneros put in a spirited performance but were unable to find the equalizer.

The match was not without controversy as the VAR played a key role in the 80th minute, overturning a penalty decision in favor of Monterrey after a handball was initially called but later reversed upon review.

With this win, Rayados solidified their position at the top of the table while Mazatlán FC suffered their sixth defeat of the tournament, leaving them in 15th place with just nine points. Both teams will be looking to bounce back in their respective upcoming fixtures.
