FC Bayern Munich is holding a memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer in the arena. BR television and ARD will broadcast the event on January 19th. Meanwhile, there are also increasing voices calling for the arena to be renamed.

BR24Sport broadcasts the memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer in a live stream and on television. Because of the memorial service for the late football legend on January 19th, the women’s biathlon World Cup race will also be brought forward.

Renaming the arena? Karl-Heinz Rummenigge skeptical

Meanwhile, there are increasing calls for the arena to be renamed, as suggested by Ottmar Hitzfeld. However, FC Bayern’s supervisory board Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reacted cautiously.

“There is an agreement with our long-standing, loyal and very serious partner Allianz, and it must be respected,” he told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. “Franz Beckenbauer died a few days ago,” Rummenigge continued: “Now is the time of mourning, and FC Bayern will host a worthy memorial service in Franz’s honor next Friday. We should take time for everything else.” Rummenigge emphasized: “Without Franz Beckenbauer, the Allianz Arena would not exist.”

Beckenbauer died on January 7th at the age of 78. FC Bayern now invites you to say goodbye to the unforgettable ‘Kaiser’ in a special, emotional setting,” as the club announced.
