RB Leipzig improved its recent weak result with a 2-0 (1-0) win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was the second win from the last eight competitive games. Xavi Simons put Leipzig in the lead on Saturday with a technical masterpiece (14th), Lois Openda increased it (57th).

Despite a lot of commitment, Mönchengladbach hardly had any clear chances, not a single one of the 13 shots went on goal. Borussia only won one of the last nine Bundesliga games, finishing 14th in the table. it falls short of its own demands.
“We’re coming off negative results at the moment, that certainly has an influence. We have to deal with that so that things get better in the next games and the players can play freely,” said Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane to the Sportschau.

Deaths: Both fan camps refrain from chanting
The game took place in an unusually quiet setting. Both fan camps forgot the usual fan chants for sad reasons: The Gladbachers because a member of the active fan scene died in a traffic accident on Saturday night – he was on the way to the game.
The Leipzig team stopped their chants shortly after kick-off because a spectator collapsed in the stands. All resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. “Unfortunately, we have to give you sad news. Unfortunately, this fan has died. We are with his relatives and his family,” said the stadium spokesman during half-time.
As the game progressed, chants and chants could only be heard sporadically and more quietly than usual. “We were able to experience that there are more important things in life than football victories or defeats,” said RB coach Marco Rose to the Sportschau. He described the atmosphere as “adjusted and great, from all sides”.

Leipzig started the game better, Mönchengladbach’s Ko Itakura had to save from Yussuf Poulsen in the second minute – the Dane was allowed to start for the first time in the new year.
A good ten minutes later, Simons did his magic: the young Dutchman took the ball with his thigh at the 16 and quickly volleyed it into the left corner with the same leg – a world-class move. Otherwise not much happened in the first round.

After the break, Leipzig initially looked as if it wanted to manage the lead. But then Xaver Schlager hit a long pass, Luca Netz narrowly canceled out the offside and Openda lobbed the ball over Moritz Nicolas to make it 2-0.
Mönchengladbach only had opportunities in the final phase, the best of which was missed by Jordan’s header. It wasn’t really exciting anymore, but it was reverent. Many Leipzig spectators sang for minutes with their cell phone lights on in honor of the deceased spectator.
Elvedi and Itakura now banned
Leipzig will play the away game at FC Bayern Munich next Saturday at 6:30 p.m. On the same day at 3:30 p.m. Mönchengladbach welcomes VfL Bochum and has to make changes in defense: Nico Elvedi and Itakura each received their fifth yellow card in Leipzig and will be missing due to suspension.
