Ecuador continues to be the leader of Group A of the Under 23 Olympic Pre-Olympic after beating Bolivia 2-0 on date 3 of the qualifying tournament for Paris 2024. John Mercado and Allen Obando scored the goals for Ecuador.
The match took place at the Brígido Iriarte National Stadium, with Ecuador confirming its lineup as Town; Quiñones, García, Sánchez; Plúas, Loor, P. Mercado; Medina, J. Mercado, Vite; Leather. Bolivia’s lineup was Poveda; Medina, Quinteros, Romero, Lino; Villarroel, Vaca, Villamil, Uzeda, Chávez; and Briceño.
Ecuador won the match with Mercado’s great goal and Obando’s goal after masterfully completing a counterattack. Ecuador now has seven points and remains the leader of Group A in the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Despite the loss, Bolivia made attempts throughout the match. At 88 minutes, Bolivia’s Villarroel was the most incisive, however, Bolivia was looking for a goal without much clarity. Ecuador appealed to the counterattack, and Bolivia tried to tie but failed generate real danger.
In the second half, after half-time, Ecuador managed to maintain the lead and dominated the match. Bolivia made several attempts to tie the game but was unsuccessful.
