Former soccer player Robinho will serve a nine-year sentence for rape in a Brazilian prison, as confirmed by the Superior Court of Justice of Brazil on Wednesday. Robinho was convicted in 2017 for his involvement in a group sexual abuse case while playing for AC Milan in 2013. The Court’s decision was ratified with a 9-2 vote by the judges.
Robinho had previously avoided serving his sentence due to Brazil’s prohibition of extraditing its nationals. However, Italian authorities requested that the Brazilian justice system approve the sentence to ensure the former soccer player serves his time in his home country. Although Robinho may appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Justice, he is currently facing immediate imprisonment.
Throughout his career, Robinho played for top-tier clubs such as Santos, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Milan. After his time in Europe, he went on to play for teams in China, Turkey, and Brazil.
This controversial development has cast a shadow on Robinho’s once promising career, as he now faces the consequences of his actions.
