The Russian Football Union announced on Saturday the cancellation of the friendly match between Russia and Paraguay, which was scheduled for March 25. This decision comes in the aftermath of a tragic terrorist attack on a concert hall near Moscow, which resulted in at least 60 fatalities.
In a joint statement, the Russian Football Union and the Paraguayan Football Association stated that the match will not take place as planned, but they are open to rescheduling it for a later date. Fans who had purchased tickets for the match will be eligible for a full refund.
Meanwhile, the Paraguayan Football Association is actively working to ensure the safe return of the national team from Russia. The team was in Sochi before the planned transfer to Moscow for the match against Russia.
Both football associations expressed their condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack and emphasized their solidarity with those affected. The cancellation of the friendly match means that Paraguay will not have any warm-up matches before their next international fixtures.
The Russian team, which did not participate in the last World Cup and will not play in the upcoming Euro Cup, recently secured a 4-0 victory against Serbia in a friendly match. The cancellation of the match against Paraguay adds to the disruptions caused by the recent tragic events near Moscow.
