“100 days. 07/10” – Israeli footballer arrested in Turkey for goal celebration message
The Turkish judiciary is investigating Israeli football professional Sagiv Jehezkel for “public incitement to hatred and hostility”. After his equalizing goal, he held his bandaged arm up to the cameras with “100 days”, the date of October 7th, on it. and a Star of David stood.
Sagiv Jehezkel remembers the suffering of the Israeli Hamas hostage after a goal. The consequences for professional footballers are dramatic. After celebrating the goal, his club Antalyspor threw him out – the Turkish judiciary is now investigating him. He is now at large.
Sagiv Jehezkel saved his team a point. The Israeli scored for Antalyaspor in the 68th minute to make it 1-1 against Trabzonspor. After the goal, Jehezkel turned away celebrating and ran towards a television camera on the sidelines. There he presented his left hand, which was bandaged. There was a clear message on the bandage: “100 days, October 7th.” A Star of David was also painted on the bandage.
With the small message, Jehezkel recalled the suffering of the Israeli hostages who have been in the control of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas since October 7th last year. On October 7, Hamas killed 1,200 people in a massacre in southern Israel and kidnapped 240 as hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Jehezkel remembered this barbarity after his goal. He had to find out immediately after the game how far freedom of expression is in Turkey. Antalyaspor released Jehezkel that evening. According to Turkish media, the club said that lawyers were working on terminating Jehezkel’s contract. The reason: Jehezkel carried out his action without informing the club beforehand. The Turkish Football Association spoke of “completely unacceptable behavior” by the player and defended Antalyaspor’s reaction as “appropriate”.

The Turkish judiciary also took notice of the goal celebration and is investigating the Israeli. This was announced by Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc. The investigation by the general prosecutor’s office was carried out for “public incitement to hatred and hostility,” said a post by Tunc Post on He then left Turkey. Jehezkel is an Israeli international and only moved from Hapoel Beer Sheva to Antalyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig in September. In 13 games this season he has eight goals. The equalizer on Sunday was his sixth goal of the season.
