They currently occupy the third position in the ranking, in the CSI mixed open volleyball championship, but they explain that this year the ranking is in the background. What really mattered was starting over and overcoming the fear that the pandemic had wiped out the passion for volleyball in San Martino Siccomario.

However, this was not the case and a new adventure began for the Gs San Martino Asd team, under the orders of coach Matteo Vecchi and under the aegis of Marco Foppa, the “presidentissimo” of the entire Polisportiva who is a true treasure, since it collects in addition to volleyball also football, basketball, handball, cycling and running. In charge of the entire volleyball field – both Fipav and CSI – is Simone Gelosa, who is also a player on the team that plays in the CSI mixed Open.

«Before the pandemic we had two teams in the CSI championship – explains Gelosa – now we started again with only one, because we were afraid of not being able to maintain the same level of participation. Instead it is going very well and now we are 25. So I think we will have two squads again from the next championship ».

the historical team

The historic team of the CSI championship was the “Manzo Team”, born ten years ago and capable of winning the championship three times and also reaching the final stage in Bormio. The other – Gs San Martino – joined five years ago and, after two Fipav championships, decided to move on to the CSI mixed Open. «When the championship for Covid was interrupted we were in the lead – continues Gelosa – both teams were very strong, the most spectacular battles were the derbies and the clashes with Landriano, Stradella Domani and Fun-Cool. Then, unfortunately, everything was forced to stop ». But now, after two years of stoppage, the car has started up again and enthusiasm has rekindled souls. «Even if it was not easy to resume after such a long break – admits Jealous – we have an average age of 45 and it is hard to get back on the move: both a physical and mental commitment. But we are happy to be active again, the team is strong: we have ex-players who have also played in B2 but also elements who have passion but never resulted in professional levels. And there are a good percentage of women, the same goes for them too “. The veteran of the team is Paolo Bazzoni, born in 1964, but still grit to sell, while the “senior” lady is Marina Manera. –
