by admin

Race in balance in the first two quarters, in the third the guests take off and Edimes never returns

PAVIA

Third knockout in a row for Edimes Sanmaurense, beaten by Cerro Maggiore at PalaRavizza. On the sixth day of the first leg of the Yellow 2 round, therefore, the negative period of the red and white of coach Fossati does not stop.

After a first quarter closed down at 18-22, Edimes equalized the score in the 20 ‘(35-35), only to concede 29 points in the third fraction which essentially mark the match definitively: the desperate attempt will be of no use of comeback in the final of the fourth period. With this success the guests reach 8 points in the standings, surpassing the Sanmaurense.

The match report

At the start, the game is angular and Cerro takes advantage of it for the first mini-break at 4-11 at 6 ‘, thanks to the baskets of Turano (4 points) and Pastori (7). The Sanmaurense is released with 5 points in a row by Poggi, entered from the bench, closely followed by the triple by Infanti, but Ballarate is in gas and keeps his lead (12-18 at 8 ‘). In the last 2 ‘of the period the Edimes shortens (18-22 to 10’). The guests resume the second fraction strongly, scoring talented baskets with Turano and Trentini, but Sanmaurense remains with the head in the match and comes back under again with a bomb from Gatto and two free shots from Botteri (27-32 at 16 ‘). The yes moment of the hosts continues: Biraghi is inspired (6 points in a row) and San Mauro goes up +3 at 18 ‘(35-32), before Chiesa sets the score in a tie (35-35 at 20’) . Upon returning from the locker rooms, Rossi is immediately on fire (9 points in the first 4 ‘of the game) and Cerro goes up to +6 at 24’ (42-48). Edimes tries the zone card, but the guests ‘break continues: first Chiesa, then Ballarate and Turano allow Cerro to reach +14 (45-59 at 28’), coach Fossati is forced to another pit stop. In the last 2 ‘the host advantage extends to 15 lengths for Cerro Maggiore who closes the third fraction ahead 49-64. The match is essentially on ice, also because the hosts continue to be nervous (Pagetti expelled for protests): despite this, Sanmaurense tries a comeback attempt in the final thanks to Botteri’s offensive verve (11 points in the last 10 ‘of game), but it is too late and Cerro manages to bring home the match and the 2 points. –
