After the headbutt to Henry at the end of the match against Verona and the team’s poor performance in the last few matches, the club has relieved the coach of his duties: a replacement is being sought
Lecce has decided and with a sharp statement announced after yesterday’s events, that it has relieved coach Roberto D’Aversa of his duties. It’s all the fault of the headbutt at the end of the match on Henry, the Hellas Verona striker. The coach’s apologies on social media published a few hours after the episode were of no avail, in which D’Aversa apologized, spoke of physical contact but then denied having hit Henry (I came into head-to-head contact with Henry, but I did not hit the Veronese footballer with a headbutt, nor did I receive one from him. It was physical contact, a bad example, an anti-sporting image resulting from great tension and adrenaline).

The images of the incident continue to circulate online, with accompanying controversies: at the end of the match, the Lecce coach, very nervous, went toe-to-toe with Verona’s French striker. The contact resulted in a fight which, moreover, led to the player’s expulsion. We need to understand now the sanction that will arrive for Henry, but above all for D’Aversa. In a similar episode, in 2012, Delio Rossi received a three-month ban. Then in 2019 in Serie C, Favarin, then coach of Lucchese, received a 5-month ban for headbutting an opponent.
Henry sui social
On his Instagram profile, in the stories, late in the evening Henry commented as follows: I’ll start by saying that I want to apologize, to my teammates and to the fans. I apologize for having reacted with words to the many provocations experienced on the pitch today, which is understandable in a match with similar stakes. But this does not and will never justify receiving a headbutt when you have already made your way to the locker room. And having received the red card – continues Henry – as a reaction, always and only verbally, to a headbutt, leaves me even more saddened by not being able to help my teammates from next Sunday, when the Venetians face Milan.
The one who will have to challenge Lecce, however, will be Salernitana: a crucial survival clash. There is little time to prepare for the change: among the names on Corvino’s list there is always Semplici, but the evaluations will be carried out in the next few hours. After relieving D’Aversa of his duties, a new coach is needed as soon as possible.
