Serie A can postpone a turn to help the run-up to the World Cup

UDINE

Postpone the 30th day of the championship (and that Napoli-Udinese scheduled for March 20) to extend the preparation period of the national team that will be involved in the play-offs for access to the World Cup in Qatar, with the semifinal scheduled for March 24 and the ‘eventual final on 30. This is one of the two proposals that the FIGC has made to the Serie A League, therefore called upon to find space, within a calendar already compressed by the European cups, for a National team that does not qualify directly it only caused an unwanted suspense effect, but also a possible “logistical” impact on Serie A.

Going into detail, the double proposal of the FIGC concerns two different dates; the first relates to an internship to be fixed in the weeks close to the weekend of 29 and 30 January, a slot already freed from the break in the championships decided by Uefa for the commitments of African and South American players. The second, on the other hand, leads straight to the aforementioned possible postponement of the 30th matchday – with a possible midweek round to be found for recovery -, which would allow the withdrawal of the Azzurri to be brought forward to 18 March in view of the play-off. According to the current calendar, in fact, the coach Roberto Mancini would have the full national team only on 21 March, three days before the semifinal, but also after a Serie A round that would follow the three days of cups, with Champions and Europa League in calendar on 15, 16 and 17 March. “We asked the Lega di A to do some reflections, but to date they are quite wrapped up, like us – said the federal president Gabriele Gravina -. We will do it again, with all the good will, but I see it as complicated. The calendar prevents you from changing the championship days close to the play-offs, the only one is to take advantage of the stop on January 30 decided by Uefa for the South American qualifiers: it is clear that we cannot use that window to anticipate a matchday, but we are thinking to a wider Italian stage ».

The League remains possible, as it is not taken for granted that the Italians will all pass the European round, and continues to monitor the TV topic: in yesterday’s meeting between the Government and Dazn, Minister Giancarlo Giorgietti and Undersecretary Anna Ascani said and asked the streaming platform that holds the rights to live matches not to change the current rules on dual users, promising in return the commitment to strengthen the tools against piracy. –
