Serie A kicks off on 22 August and the Italian Cup with only 40 teams

Serie A 2021/22 will officially begin on August 22, with a conclusion set on May 22, 2022. The decision came during a League Council that took place in the afternoon and which took decisions on some important issues. Furthermore, as regards the next championship, the Christmas break will be from 23 December 2021 to 6 January 2022. A transfer from the Federal Council will be necessary, but it should be a formality.

News coming for the Italian Cup. During the League Council which took place in the afternoon and which also decided the dates for the next championship, in fact, a new tournament format was also launched: only 40 teams will participate (20 Serie A and 20 B clubs), starting next August 15th, the date on which 12 teams of A will take the field immediately. A new formula that aims to enhance the tournament and immediately create challenges that are attractive for television. Furthermore, the Series
A will ask the FIGC to change the format of the Primavera 1 TIM championship, rising to 18 teams from the current 16.
